A Dewey Bankruptcy Filing Would Raise Novel Issues |

Although a string of law firms have filed for bankruptcy in recent years, Dewey & LeBoeuf would be the largest to file for Chapter 11 and would raise novel issues for creditors and the courts, bankruptcy lawyers say. Rather than a more traditional scenario where the secured creditors are the banks, the bankruptcy would involve hundreds of millions of dollars of secured bank and bondholder debt. Other issues that could complicate a Dewey bankruptcy include a criminal investigation and the firm's large global footprint. |

No Liability Found For Texting Driver Just Before Crash |

A person can't be sued for allegedly helping to cause an accident by texting a driver, a New Jersey judge has held. The judge dismissed civil aiding-and-abetting claims brought by a couple on a motorcycle who each lost a leg after being hit by a pickup driver who was texting just before the accident. The ruling leaves intact claims against the driver. |
